About

Our plan is actually pretty simple:

Fly to Mexico City with all of the equipment we need to live on bikes indefinitely, and then ride to Peru.

We are Andrew Herr and Aran Nulty, a couple of gringos who met and married in Wisconsin after graduate school. Andrew (the A you see on this site) is an engineer who was working in small scale renewable energy installation when Aran (the a of A+a) finished Teach for America in 2011. We’re taking a very long honeymoon adventure through a little of Latin America. Our trip started on 22 September 2011, and we plan to finish biking sometime in 2012, but may work abroad for a while afterwords to improve our Spanish.

We have each been bikers for a long time, Aran probably more seriously than Andrew (1 full and 2 half Ironmans, for example), but the idea for a tour came from friends and the internet. It probably started with a friend’s advice to read Riding the Spine, and was egged on by another Madison couple’s blog 2 to Tango. Since we’ve been planning and riding, we’ve read a lot of blogs, see the links page for a list.
